Creative Age Challenge

Creative Age Challenge is a national initiative, led by our partners Equal Arts, which takes its influence from physical sports-related fundraising initiatives.

In the Moment participants, school children and members of the community make beautifully crafted art works to raise money and public awareness to support the activity Lakeland Arts delivers for people living with dementia.

To sustain the In the Moment programme, Lakeland Arts will coordinate two Creative Age Challenges each year and seek the support of the wider community.

Inspired by Spring, our first Creative Age Challenge, called Blooming with Dementia, took place in May 2016. We transformed Kendal’s Space2Create community centre into a garden with flowers made of felt and recycled materials to symbolise the possibility of living well with dementia.

The Creative Age Challenge was part of Kendal’s Dementia Awareness Week and was supported by local people, school children, making flowers and giving donations.  The school children generated sponsorship from family and friends and together we raised nearly £500 to support local people living with dementia.

One of the schools made a special visit to Space2Create and presented In the Moment participants with a garland of felted flowers which was a wonderful intergenerational moment.

Our autumn-inspired Creative Age Challenge took place during October 2016 and culminated during the Kendal Wool Gathering weekend on 29-30 October.
